Syndicate Legal Advisory Services prepares official U.S. Copyright Office applications and organizes the client’s deposit materials.
What’s included:
- Intake and information gathering. A structured questionnaire records the client’s own statements: the title, the type of work (as selected by the client from the Office’s own published categories), the year of creation, the author’s legal name (and pseudonym, if the client chooses), the author’s citizenship or domicile, the claimant’s name and address, and the contact information for correspondence.
- Author and claimant record (client’s statement). The client states who created the work and who owns it, and whether the work was made as an employee or on commission.
- Publication record (client’s statement). The client states whether the work has been published, and if so the date and country of first publication, using the Office’s published definition.
- Preexisting material record (client’s statement). The client states whether the work includes material that was not created by the author for this work (licensed, public domain, or previously registered). We prepare the client’s description of the material to exclude and of the new material claimed.
- AI-assisted material record (client’s statement). The client states whether any portion was generated by artificial intelligence and describes it. We prepare the client’s statement.
- Application preparation (Standard or Single, as selected by the client). From the client’s statements, we prepare the answers for the Office’s online application, including the title, nature of authorship, publication information, claimant, limitation of claim, rights and permissions contact, and correspondent. The client reviews every answer.
- Certification by the client. The client, not Syndicate, completes the certification screen under the Office’s rules, and the client is warned in writing that the certification is made under penalty of law. We do not certify as agent, and we do not submit.
- Deposit organizer. We organize the client’s own copy of the work into a labeled file and give the client a neutral checklist drawn from the Office’s published deposit instructions for the client’s type of work (for example, electronic upload formats and, for published works, the Office’s description of the “best edition”).
- Fee information. We direct the client to the Office’s published fee schedule and payment methods. The client pays the Office directly. We do not collect or transmit the government fee.
- Filing packet. We provide a printed or digital packet with the prepared answers, the deposit checklist, and instructions for the client to create an account, enter the answers, upload the deposit, pay, and submit. We do not hold or use the client’s credentials.
- After-filing checklist. A neutral list, from the Office’s public guidance, of what the client may receive: an email confirmation with a case number, a possible correspondence from an examiner, and a certificate of registration, along with the effective date of registration.
- Review and revisions. We make revisions you request to the prepared answers before the client enters them, within the review rounds in your package.
