Syndicate Legal Advisory Services prepares the court forms and supporting documents for the readoption (or recognition) of a child adopted abroad, and, where offered, assemble the client’s own documents for the federal immigration and citizenship process.
The accredited adoption service provider, the foreign authorities, USCIS, and the U.S. Department of State, not Syndicate Legal Advisory Services, handle the home study, the child’s referral and matching, the foreign adoption or guardianship proceeding, the visa process, and all immigration determinations.
Part A: State Court Readoption Documents
- Intake and information gathering. A structured questionnaire collects the adoptive parent(s)’ information, the child’s name and birth information, the country of origin, the date and type of the foreign adoption or custody order, the child’s date of entry into the U.S., and the child’s immigration and citizenship status.
- Readoption petition package. We prepare the Adoption Request, the Adoption Agreement, the proposed Adoption Order, and the required declarations, cover sheets, and confidential forms.
- Foreign documents. We organize the foreign adoption decree, birth certificate, and related records, and prepare cover declarations and checklists for the client’s own certified translations and any required authentication or apostille.
- Agency and investigation paperwork. We prepare the forms and cover letters for the county or state adoption agency, and any request to waive or rely on prior home study and post-placement reports where the law allows.
- Background and disclosure forms. We prepare the adoptive parent(s)’ disclosure forms and related court-required attachments.
- Filing logistics. We provide a filing packet with signature, notarization, and copy instructions. At your direction, we can handle e-filing, courier filing, and proof of service preparation, if any is required.
- Hearing and post-hearing documents. We prepare a hearing packet and checklist, the final Adoption Order, a request for certified copies, and a checklist for obtaining a California birth record or amended birth certificate, where available.
Part B: Citizenship and Records Document Assembly (when applicable)
- Citizenship and records document assembly. From the information you provide, we assemble the client’s document packets for the child’s Certificate of Citizenship application, passport application, and Social Security record updates, and for post-adoption name changes. We do not select forms, evaluate eligibility, or advise on immigration status.
